I think Kurlak sees the market about to explode and he wants in.

To give him the benefit of doubt.

I've been watching to reload the half I sold and haven't seen a decent dip since the run-up during ComNet --- and for TI, the Santa Fe analyst meeting.

Monarchs and moguls certainly don't tremble at Kurlak's word.

Drat! :))

Integrated Systems Inc. Announces Relationship With Texas Instruments for Set-Top Box Design Kit; Combined Technologies Speed Development and Time to Market

Business Wire - February 11, 1998 08:19

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 1998--Integrated Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:INTS), the leading supplier of millennium-ready embedded software solutions, announces a new set-top box design kit. A fusion of Texas Instruments' (TI) hardware and Integrated Systems' (ISI) development software, this new set-top box design kit is the industry's newest rapid development tool for designing differentiated digital set-top box systems. The set-top box (STB) provides an interface between a television and network, enabling reception of satellite or cable programming, Internet and email services on the home TV. While the set-top-box is primarily a tool for enhancing home entertainment, new technology allows the set-top box to leverage digital signal processing (DSP) to meld television and computer technology. By adding peripheral devices such as keyboards and printers, the set-top box is increasingly providing a home-computing alternative to the PC. As a result, the set-top box market is expanding rapidly and manufacturers are increasingly under pressure to develop new products with higher functionality, and get them to market faster, at a competitive price.

Features and Benefits

This new Set-Top Box Design Kit combines TI's advanced AV7000 series of single-chip STB solutions with ISI's pSOSystem(tm) and pRISM+(tm) development environment.

-- ISI's STB software includes the pSOS(R) real-time operating
system (RTOS), the widest selection of networking protocols
available, on-screen display graphics support, common STB
peripheral device drivers and World Wide Web enabling software
modules. pSOSystem provides a complete RTOS support solution with
the options, tools and support necessary to accommodate the most
sophisticated embedded development projects.

-- The pRISM+ development environment offers developers a suite of
best-of-class tools for developing, analyzing and testing the
embedded application in one seamless, open environment.
Additionally, pRISM+ for ARM(tm) development environment, coupled
with the pSOSystem, provides the most advanced system level
software and development environment available for the AV7000
series.

-- TI's AV7000 series of single-chip DSP solutions provides
optimized performance, because all the software is embedded
directly onto one 32-bit 40- millions of instructions per second
ARM-based reduced instruction set computing (RISC) processor.
This reduces the number of discrete devices on a STB -
integrating the microprocessor with the technology needed for
advanced audio, video and visual functionality, all in one place.
This solution ensures full compatibility and simplifies the
development and as well as the manufacturing process, keeping
costs down.

"With the Set-Top-Box Design Kit and TI's AV7000 chip series, we are effectively enabling a designer to create a STB on a chip -- with all functionality embedded directly onto the processor," said David St. Charles, CEO of ISI. "We expect this new ARM development environment to shave months off the design process. The end result will be a set-top-box with better performance, lower production costs and a lower price tag for the customer." "This integrated Design Kit allows STB designers to leverage the individual strengths of the TI and ISI products," said Tammy Gray, TI's AV7000 marketing manager. "The AV7000 series gives STB designers the ability to use a STB design environment configured specifically to the AV7000, making design and testing as effective and fast as possible."

Pricing and Availability

The Set-Top-Box Design Kit for AV7000 series products is planned to be available in 1Q98. STB customers will be able to contact their local ISI sales office to receive an evaluation copy of the ISI software, which includes board support for TI's AV7000 series development platform. Contact your local TI sales representative for pricing and availability on the AV7000 series development platform.
