One more thing to take into account is that some of these steel co.'s have made forrays into "green" steel. (Which, as it turns out, might actually be significantly less green, all things considered, than traditional steel, according to academic research... lol)

These have been expensive and may well turn out to be pretty worthless.

In Sweden, more or less all of the steel is state-owned. That tends to lead to such price-insensitive follies. (I think state owned steel co.'s may be a common thing in Europe, but am not sure.)

This will probably turn out to be another cost disadvantage, compared to perhaps more Carnegie-like steel co.'s in the US, whom might possibly be somewhat less quasi-ESG, and least a little more shareholder-conscious. (IDK)

Trying to make mirages in order to appear squeeky clean is costly business.
