Thanks for the feedback. This is not a political forum, but there are some real implications for investing in countries with autocratic regimes like Russia or even China.

As for China, I found the following background material relevant:

It’s hard to apply a margin of safety to these things.

OT.

When one encounters a version of a highly dramatic event that has also found its way onto the "world's stage", it can happen that there's "another side" to the story.
For those who wish to ensure that "a version" is authentic and is based on actual Facts, it may mean that one may have to adopt an Open Mind and to be prepared to study BOTH sides of what may be presented.

Here is "another side" of the story regarding the Magnitsky event which is presented by Andrei Nekrasov who, I would suggest, is an INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST in the TRUE sense of that profession.

From what you said I assume that you were prepared to spend about an hour and 18 minutes of your time listening to what Barry Ritholtz had to say via BLOMBERG.
Maybe, in the pursuit of what are the overall Truth and Facts, you may want to spend about 2 hours watching what Andrei Nekrasov uncovered about the "Magnitsky Affair" here ---->

It seems that the real "Rogue" in this matter could very well be the "Red Notice" author Bill Browder himself and his probable "money disappearing act".

Here are one or two revelations that Nekrasov uncovered which do NOT comply with Browder's account --->

1) Browder referred to Magnitsky as his "lawyer". But that is not true. Magnitsky was an ACCOUNTANT as clearly stated by Magnitsky's mother at 1:07:07, and by his colleague at 1:07:27.

2) Browder stated that it was Magnitsky who initially reported the "crime". But that's not true. The police were investigating the crime LONG Before Magnitsky reported it, at 1:25:20.

3) Browder had UNDERPAID taxes through several companies that fell under his own control, at 1:26:20.

Here's an interesting post from someone who has watched Nekrasov's investigation .......
