Hey Bill your were an ad man 1st - call it embellishment

Programmers in general avoid creativity , but not plagiarism .

Yesterday when you listed all the Windows file extensions it reminded me how layered that OS is due to "embellishments" (plagiarisms).

MacOS's expectation for Rhapsody as "everyman's UNIX" is noteworthy:

" Although exact details are still a bit fuzzy, Rumors has been able to confirm -- via reliable sources -- that the first Consumer Release of Rhapsody will indeed be shipping with a "fully functional"
AppleScript.

Inquiries are still being made to discover how compatible this AppleScript will be with the one included in the Mac OS. What little is known for certain is that, of course, it will be fully PowerPC native.

An interesting rumor that has accompanied this news: Rhapsody's
AppleScript may be able to not only automate tasks in the
graphical interface, but also at the UNIX command line; this would
be a powerful capability, allowing more casual users to avoid
messing around in UNIX where they may not be comfortable --
and allowing "Power Users" to simplify complicated set-ups or
menial command-line tasks, things that would normally require
learning a separate scripting language specifically for the command
line.
"

Simplified scripting was one of the reasons IBM invested $50 mln in NeXT, but got frustrated with delays , and went to Interactive Unix, Santa Monica, Ca. for "AIX".
