Interesting. Voice Recognition, I am confident, will be the next technology driver application. Word I am hearing is it takes more than 64M to run and an HP Kayak XU (Dual Pentium II's - 1997 Product of the Yr) with a 64B SB Gold sound card. How many offices will be having problems with workman's comp for RSI in the next few yrs? This will drive the market to voice recognition which won't run on a $1000PC at this time...

just my humble opinion

Dennis, I don't know it is a good idea to buy any stock based on just one news paper article, though it is indeed good news for Intel. Why don't you do some research on the company and if you think it is a good company with a bright future then you should consider buying the stock. What else can I say.

HI, Dennis,

The article you cited is interesting. I wonder
why the article did not mention Hua2Shuo4,
the leading motherboard company in Taiwan.
Since HuaShuo might be the one of the most sensitive motherboard company on Intel.
Anyway, the news seems to be quite positive.

Today's weakness of Intel might come from the negative analyst of Merril Lynch's analyst Kuluck. He has been pessimistic on Intel for several months and sometimes his opinions has impact on Intel's price.

I agree with Mohan. If you do some research on Intel and feel confident on its future, maybe you could make better decision than people like Kuluuuck.

Best wishes,

david :)

Dennis: Re:"Should I buy Intel because of the following news:"

I leave the answer to other more experienced people in this thread.

My 2 cents comments :
1. Taiwan account for 1/3+ of PC mother boards made in the world.
2. Intel owns quite a few chipset patents for socket 7. Mother boards makers need to be carefule not to violate the copyrights if Intel decides not to supply the chipsets for socket 7.

Dennis: re: "Intel's Pentium II chips has become the hottest product in Taiwan"

I see this as "ok" news that the conversion of P to PII is on track. I suspect that this growth is mainly taken from Intel's own PII motherboard sales. It is the standard business plan for Intel to relinquish motherboard sales as a new processor moves onwards up from 30% market penetration.

I expect that Intel boards group is now focused with ramping manufacture of 100MHz product.
