Yeah, the refusal to have more than one single standard of care means that a homeless guy who just spent his last 5 bucks on a mini bottle of vodka - at least in theory - must receive the same exact level of care as the rich person whose donations paid for the entire hospital.

Of course, nothing is free. So, the government - while issuing a law that hospitals must provide care to everyone who needs it- also allowed hospitals to develop a very murky pricing system. People who, presumably, can pay - get charged inordinate, crazy amounts of money.

So, we do have a social safety net - payed for not by all taxpayers, but only by people who need medical care. The system is unfair, very inefficient, provides zero routine care - and it’s insanely expensive. Because anything related to hospitals is priced at robbery levels.

Trump tried to get more transparency - but didn’t get very far.
