There are far better people here to answer that question ...I am far from a currency expert - but here's my 2 cents FWIW.

It could .... as far as I am aware, countries often hold various currencies in reserve to deal with differing situations. Holding differing currencies would allow you to support or deflate your own currency, or that of other countries. Obviously, if you deflate another countries currency (by selling it), that will/could cause inflation in that country.
