Inode,
We should NEVER allow government to shut down business again. EVER. FOR ANYTHING.
Had we followed your advice, California would have become the leader, both per capita and in absolute terms, in COVID-19 deaths.

Even Sweden gave up on their "no lockdown" policy several months in. There's a reason why deaths in Sweden are far greater than those of their Nordic neighbors.

Sweden's Anti-Lockdown Strategy Didn't Work, Led to Higher Death Rate (businessinsider.com)

Whether lockdowns and restrictive mandates should have continued well into 2021, when the vaccine was widely available and was blunting the impact of variants such as Delta and Omicron, is a matter of debate.

But in the early months of COVID-19, those lockdowns were life-saving.

Except for New York, where Emmy-award-winning governor Andrew Cuomo was late to lock down the state, then was idiotic to lock the elderly within their care facilities.
