You misunderstood:
May ..... It looks as though the Ukraine war is resolving without MAD or total war...

October..... I think Russia is going to have to scale up nuclear weapons to target USA...

The first from May remains correct. The Kiev approach was abandoned. The Karkiv area was given up. The other part is more or less stable, while NATO/USA pour in the big guns and bring the big pressure to bear. They tell the Russians "You are not allowed to use the big weapons or anything. You have to just fight with your very limited 'conventional' means." That's of course absurd. Laughably absurd. Of course, just as USA used atomic bombs in WWII, the Russians will use atomic bombs if it makes sense, which it does. I'd have used them long ago, saying that unless we came to a Scottish/Brexit agreement based on local referenda, forthwith, the End of the World would be witnessed immediately.

Donald Trump was right to tell the Taleban bloke "Here is a picture of your house. There had better not be another USA soldier harmed." Things went well until DementiaJoe10% took over. Taleban swooped in and that was the end, along with a mass bombing of USA soldiers in the last days and umpty$billion in equipment abandoned.

Russia can phone Donald Trump and say, "Donald, you are a reasonable man. Please tell Mr Nobel Peace Prize Great Color that if he doesn't call it all off right now, then we will head into full scale deflection MAD. Recognize democratic referenda as conducted. Accept Crimea is Russian too. We will scale up until he changes his mind or it is all over for USA, Russia, Liz Truss, Ursula and a LOT more besides. We will be lighting the first fuse at sunrise on Armageddon Day, which will be remembered by the few survivors for millennia if the worst comes to the worst. Please accept our invitation to golf followed by a nice cup of tea, scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam in Sevastopol to arrange the details. We recommend the UN organize follow up votes in 12 months to confirm the recent referenda and we will include an Independence option in case that's preferred by the locals."

The second line did not contradict the first. The war has settled into an obvious outcome. But the attackers are not giving up and being reasonable. So Russia will have to go beyond the borderlands and reach to the decision makers and suppliers. That doesn't mean full MAD. USA will decide whether to get MAD. Russia is just going to have to bring the world of pain to the cowardly bullies in the NATO realm where feminazis and trannies rule.

It's easy to use Ukes to fight and die. Not so good when the front line reaches anywhere to anywhere. Moscow, Vladivostok, San Diego, Peoria, Diego Garcia = and 12,000 other targets are ready and waiting.

Reading comment sections in many places, Americans seem to think they are playing some sort of shoot 'em up game as in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, etc that has no effect on the mainland. They are full of hubris and marauding mania.

Let's see how they feel after, as Mike Tyson says, "everyone has a plan until... punched in the mouth". And as military cliche has it "Plans look great until first contact with the enemy".

Democracy and referenda as in Scotland, England Brexit, Quebec, Ireland, all the old Yugoslav countries, Barbados and all over the place is a much better way to determine political boundaries.

Russia seems to have calculated their relative capacity quite well. I thought they'd get mushed with USA whizbang fancy pants clever rocketry and stuff. See my posts BEFORE the Russian move into Ukraine. But that has NOT turned out to be as bad as I thought it would be.

How Russia could have so badly miscalculated their own relative capacity... so abysmally failed in comprehending the nature of the opposition in Ukraine... and so dramatically failed in recognizing the capacity and logistical limits inherent in their plans ?

Russia has successfully taken over the swathe of eastern Ukraine that was logical for them to try to take over.

Now they just have to keep it. And they have demonstrated near enough for government work that Donetsk and Luhansk people do prefer Russia to Azov murderers. So Russia has a moral position to their position.

Now it just remains for Donald Trump to do the negotiating that DementiaJoe10% and Kamala Cackle wouldn't have a clue how to do. Obama is useless too but he could go along as a joint venture Trump helper to be the Zelensky Azov contact, throwing a bone to the Democrats and a fig leaf for Zelensky, Hunter, DementiaJoe10% etc.

Trump should only agree to go if he FIRST gets a Nobel Peace Prize and Bar!! Obama got one for being an excellent colour. Trump should get two. No, make that 4. Settled Israel/Saudi etc. Calmed North Korea [since inflamed by DementiaJoe10%]. Establishes peace negotiations in Donetsk, Luhansk, Crimea etc. Then the Bar for achieving it.

But I think there are going to have to be a few atomic bombs go off, hopefully as demonstration ones near USA rather than overhead Washington. But maybe actually destroying some USA military facilities/ships/air force base. How about Syria? American criminal invaders are there. Get them - the illegal USA occupation of Syria is much worse than the Russian one of the Russian areas. Yes, that's the ticket. Give USA troops in Syria 24 hours to move out before their bases are obliterated by nuke. Assad could authorize it as it's Syrian territory with zero USA rights there.
