Copper demand to be pushed by China's renewable energy construction

According to data from CRU Group, China's copper demand will grow due to the construction of electric vehicles and renewable energy facilities.

China's copper demand was expected to reach 15.55 million tons this year, a year-on-year increase of 0.8%. The demand from the auto and energy industries will rise by 4%, while copper demand from the construction industry will drop by 4%.

Bank analysts predicted that power shortages could push China’s government to speed up grid updates and expansion projects, thereby raising copper demand. Besides, continued construction of wind and solar facilities will also help to boost copper demand.

However, Europe's manufacturing industry has recessed severely. Even with higher demand in China, it couldn’t offset the economic slowdown elsewhere. Copper inventories will increase next year, but the growth is unsure.
