, "they continue entertaining fantasies of a post-carbon world."

That fantasy will be our reality around 2050, at least for fossil-carbon energy.

"why do anything about the current price of gas?"
I suspects politicians aren't into economic darwinism, and understand that they must at least appear to be trying to help consumer-voters who are struggling to pay for gas.

"I bet that's exactly what you're thinking, that we are just one or two years away from that utopia."

I have been involved in making, repairing, servicing and inspection of fuel tankers for 45 years, they are not going away any time soon. diesel machinery of all kinds keeps the worlds economies going, this is not going to change over night.

Even if we don't build new refineries, it'd be nice to have at least one or two other refineries that can produce the type of gas that California mandates.

The CA blends are a joke and 100% unnecessary. Join the rest of America and the price of gas will fall accordingly.
