I can forgive Ukrainians for fighting alongside Nazis trying to get rid of Russians.
Understanding and forgiving are two different things.

In any case, don’t forget that for every Ukrainian who joined the Nazi SS there must have been 50 to 100 who bravely fought against them, serving in the Red Army. Millions of people. Many of those brave souls hated the Russian brand of communism - and maybe many didn’t like the Russians either - but the Nazis made it an easy choice - both nations were considered subhuman - and were treated accordingly. And this was going to become much, much worse.

Even the great [anti] hero Bandera had to learn this on his own experiences - after all the dirty work he and his people did for their Nazi bosses, the moment he insisted that it’s time for payback - and pushed for independence - he was under arrest. That wasn’t the plan. The plan was to destroy them, along with the Russians.
