You don't want to overdo these things. You just need enough stuff so you can think a bit and come up with solutions. Food, yes 6 months or so as you might have to share some. Cash, just enough to get by for a month or so, as everyone will be in the same boat.

All things in moderation.

I was given a generator, more than enough capacity to run everything, but broken down. I think it's easy fixed though. It's been sitting in my garage for months, so it's high time I checked it out.

Too much kerosene is a fire hazard, and you don't want to stash so much stuff you become a target. Just store a tad less than your neighbour and hide it better. -g-

Yeah, a little silver may be handy.
