my holding in softbank baba bidu has put a big hole in my portfolio. I think i have learned my lesson about investing outside of the US. That is the problem with undemocratic societies. its all about power with no accountability.. OT I got the book "Money Magic" by Laurence J. Kotlikoff and read it. I highly recommend it for any US citizens who want to plan for their retirements. I don't agree with everything in the book but it opened my eyes to a different way of thinking. One specific information that I never knew is that for anyone who served in the us military, under many circumstances you should be getting a bump up in your earnings for your active duty time. I would verify this with social security because i dont think its possible to figure it out if you are getting that on your own. the book also confirms my thinking that owning Ibonds is very worth while part of ones portfolio as it offers both inflation protection and is 100% safe. I commend you for your giving to your university, It nice that they appreciate your gift giving as well.
