Agreed. The small investor has the edge if he educates himself,
and the out of mutual funds if he wants to take advantage of
others' education.

The question isn't so much about weasling in, but when to weasle in. Always reacting or anticipating...never the causation. That is a huge disadvantage.

Take a look at the NYSE floor and you'll find a 27 years old man who has several things on his mind: a new Porsche, a million dollar house, and the desire to retire at 30 and spend the rest of his life on the beach and playing golf. Money is on his mind and trading is his game. He doesn't give a thought about you or me because the reason he's there is because of the most primal motivator out there: greed. He will do whatever is in his power to make his firm money and thus live and buy the things he wants.

I'm just a rinky dink investor with an internet connection.
