I’m far from sure that the big push for EV’s will work out.

That depends on what the goal is.

Toyota is taking some heat for following your technical advice-committing more to hybrids than EVs.

I think the battery issue is overstated. People seem concerned about the Lithium, of which about 1kg is required for a car. Musk just spent 5 billion to buy Cobalt. But nickel can substitute for the cobalt. The US doesn’t have much Lithium (although for your previous neck of the woods, the Smackover Brown Dense has been estimated by USGS to contain quite a lot as brine, I think a million tons). But I think Lithium is in good supply in several places.

The electricity problem is huge and we should be working on it now. Vast solar farms will solve it, but you are going to have to build large pumped storage facilities and we aren’t China — it'll take decades. So that seems like a bigger problem than making batteries to me.

The replacement cycle on the fleet of cars is long, and Exxon et al., will make it competitive as long as it can.

I’m a little concerned about the electrical fires. I think Tesla has improved the problem with a really high speed fuse but it seems to me there are still a few of these happening.

Musk said they will ship 150 Semi Trucks by year end. That should at least suggest a new range of possibilities. My personal belief is we have entered a new era and there is no backing up from here. At the very least it provides some excitement for this old geezer lol.
