Hemmingway was rapping about Boxing, how you know if the guy you're fighting is afraid , how you can tell, etc. He used the Matador analogy to make a point about fear and how people show it. I used to think all fighters dealt with fear the same, they talked, and talked 'big'....soon I realized what Hemmingway meant, the quiet wasn't afraid...he was sure of himself...now, I'm injured, but I'm still fighting next week, why? Because I'll prove to myself something...will I talk? Will I give away my vulnerable body-part? ...I'll be quiet, like the bull staring down the matador! The deer is afraid, you don't get the analogy...you've never been there, you've never asked those questions of yourself.
