We received more confirmation that Apple's QuickTime licensing has been suspended for the moment, apparently due to pending changes in the licensing terms. (There may be some related QuickTime 3.0 technical issues, although this is unclear.)

Maybe this answers my question: Apple wasn't making much money from QT, but Steve has decided that it's time they did, and he plans to do it via licensing.
