I think the smartest thing Republicans could do is nominate Trump virtually unopposed. Why? Because even if someone else beats Trump in the primaries, considering Trump's huge and very loyal following, that person would be at a huge disadvantage in the general elections. I think Trump knows it.

So, in this sense, my guess is that the Dems would like it best if someone like DeSantis runs against Trump - and beats him. This would eliminate the 2 strongest Republican candidates - at once.
