Yes, well, I probably overstepped saying how your business
model was flawed, too. But that was my perception.

Anyhow, you know you have our best wishes and firm support,
and I think I'm speaking for the vast majority of active
SI members when I say that.

Of course I can only really speak for myself (whomever
I may THINK I'm speaking for).

I'll cosign the lease, but I need a deposit ... <gggg>.

Nevertheless, hit me for 20 bucks. I'll volunteer it.
Give me a smiley face too.

Best regards.

Brad: Please, please make SI a profitable enterprise.

It's a great freebie for us early members, but it won't be worth anything to anybody if you guys go under.

I'd gladly pay $10 or $20 a year to continue membership.

And frankly, I would not object all that much to seeing a few ads -- provided they didn't slow down the display too much.

And if you ever wanted to take SI public I would even buy a little stock -- but ONLY if you present a viable business plan.

For that, you DO need to have more coming in than going out.

Of course -- from your own standpoint -- it might make more sense to run up SI's numbers and then sell SI for a huge fortune and retire in luxury. However, I am sure the buyer would then charge, or advertise, or both. I hope that's not your plan. This place wouldn't be the same without you.

RE: SI Business Plan.

Brad,

In contrast to what others have said, if your current business plan works and is profitable for you, please continue to use it. You and Jeff seem to have a keen business sense, and have recognized that the growth of SI is due to your most valuable asset, the members. It's really none of our business how you run things, but I figure that the lifetime membership fee and the non-member advertisements probably balance each other out. If things change, don't hesitate to ask for help or change the plan, but in the meantime keep up the good work!

I suggest that you get rid of (do not display) the thread's initial message after some time. Several are too lengthy and their contents irrelevant/outdated after 2+ years. Or allow an option to view them on command instead of automatically displaying them.

I am a new member and really didn't need to to join because I was getting such a value just checking in on the message boards without the need to reply. Your members are a very valuable asset. The reason I joined was to help support this resource and as a way of saying thank you to S.I. If you want a suggestion as to, in one way mine, your non-member guest. Give non-members the option of yearly memberships instead of lifetime and still keep the lifetimes the bargain (even at $200) I think they are. Another option would be to give anyone a free month, 6 month, or year access before they get charged. It is easy if you know anything about the companies followed here that it's almost all great information. Thanks.

Here's a suggestion for an algorithm: (number of people who have bookmarked each thread) divided by (average number of daily posts in that thread)

Brad -

Another suggestion...

Is there a way to link the last new message of a thread to the first unread message of the next thread? So you could 'string together' all of the threads and not have to keep going back to the subject marks section

Thanks,
