Gaps don't come into play here. I am not doing TA as it is generally understood. I am running a quant model. I will soon have to start looking at correlation and p-values, but as a first sketch focusing just on daily charts, I'm pretty impressed with how accurate and useful even this rough sketch is. Besides, this is a continuous index futures contract, so there are almost no gaps (today is an exception).

Here's the same model on SOX (not a continuous contract). Notice where the bottoms happened 1.382 and 1.618 extensions). An initial GTC buy @ 1.382 sell @1 (2312 - 2523) and GTC buy@1.618/sell@1.278 (2182 - 2452) would have made most traders very happy.

You would have of course missed on the latest leg up, but I am not aiming for perfection. For that you'd need to use your own trading skills to decide where to draw the lines.
