My apologies on the unacceptable reception you got from me before. I hope you see this reply, but that's the best I can do. Smart people have to protect themselves from others who might wish to harm them, and I've definitely not been good at that online. I've revealed far too much to people I've never met before face-to-face. That's literally everyone on SI, as far as I know. :-) I know many people lurk this thread and SI in general, not to mention the Internet. Many times I've wished I'd always done that, going back to look at my first attempts and obfuscation of my identity on Usenet. They seem laughable now since they were, but it's all I knew (and most of us knew) at the time. Had I read Cliff Stoll's excellent book "The Cuckoo's Egg" back then and understood the ramifications of what was to come, I would have done the same. I know I could learn much from the experts on SI about "best practices" for protection from the darker forces in this world, especially around networking and connections to servers overseas in countries less hospitable to Capitalism than the U.S. Anyone who follows politics and knows history well also knows who the players are in that shell game, so no need to belabor that point here, it's explicitly banned in the thread header.
