That's exactly it, for every consumer product out there Sony has
name-recognition and brand equity. Thus, they almost always charge
more for similar products.

In the computer realm, however, there is very little branding for
Sony, other than in media. Here Iomega has the brand equity.
I can't really imagine Sony trying to sell drives at a loss just
to gain market share. If they do, however, I'll be the first to
sell my shares.
