Covering the cost of necessities for millions of Americans via entitlements has been baked into the cake by both parties, so people have their expectations.
There are… so many… contradictions in this. The usdebtclock.org - the site with all those rapidly blinking numbers - expects our national debt to reach $41 Trillion by 2026.

That is the measure of the distance between our “necessities” - and our realities. Courtesy of our wonderful political elites of both parties.

Infinite borrowing… can’t live with it, can’t live without it.

When the government wastes money, they no longer even waste “our” tax dollars (which means, they honestly don’t have to pay attention to us and our opinions).

Our expenditures are in a “Big Bang” mode — in a state of continuous explosion. The recklessness of this is beyond anyone’s comprehension.

To start telling people that we must live within means - is the best way to get a reputation of being a nutcase. So, we don’t. If any politician suggests this with a straight face - that person's turkey is cooked. Gravitas lost forever. So, none of them do.

All of this is the result of Big Government. Borrowing without any intention to pay back (aka, thievery) is its very foundation. The ultimate Bread and Circuses - 2000 years after Rome.
