Nancy and Alan the Holy Spirit often reminds me of another verse from James. "Faith without works is dead. You're right on target. John Rice, once said: "Jesus will have to come and take some Christian adulterers out of the arms of the whores so they will quit hurting the kingdom of God."
They call that antinomianism. I call that "grace" gone beserk. I don't know if John Rice is "legalistically" correct---depends on whether you subscribe to Calvinism or Armenianism. But we must indeed be careful that we endeavor to "make God look good" and Holy; and righteous; and desirable; as well as a God of Justice; and not soft on sin; not looking the other way when we do wrong; not condoning our lying; and cheating; and uncontrolled sinful anger; etc.
Grace.
'Tis marvelous.
Works.
'Tis marvelous, although they don't in and of themselves save us.

Have a sen say shun al even eng.

Jack

Nancy, you are going to have to to remind yourself that all who yell, "Lord", "Lord" are not necessarily Christians. It is a place where millions have hidden for various personal gain since day one.

I had a very best friend, and I mean very best friend, who always struck me a little as a game player and one who was coasting on the rest of us. There were many, many signs this was true, as well as many, many signs she was truly saved.

At the time there was such monumental sin in her life it was almost impossible to watch or bear, the great big family bible sat on the huge table inside the door, other Bibles open always, as if just read, and this woman was prowling all the most "charismatic" churches, looking for guys, married, single you name it. And carrying her Bible, and had the best "praise God, isn't Jesus wonderful" rap you ever heard. She has been married seven times, her kids are all literally into satan and drugs, and she screamed me out of her house for suggesting she needed an adjustment to anything. I have seen other things, and I have been quite backslidden myself, but at least with the decency to admit that I was totally backslidden and an embarrassment to the Lord and the angels, and not to judge Jesus for my shannanians. I abhor anyone judging the Lord by those who shout or much speak His Holy Name, including my own life.

And the people you have met who profess to believe they can do anything because they are saved have NEVER been truly saved.
I believe that. I mean it, and I believe it. They may have circulated through a few congregations, and maybe made a bench appearance at prayer time, but the difference between the real thing and the tare is about like black and white and night and day. They don't have the same eyes, the same voice or the same life as the soul truly committed to God and in love with Him.
.
The best thing is to judge the Lord by His human gold. forget the rest except to pray for them. That will bring you a lot of peace, believe me. We are all aware of strange things, and may have even been a strange thing.

Forget about them.
