I don't know why coyotes have a bad rep. Personally I've never had anything against them. Dogs befriending coyotes is normal. I'd let it be.

There was a coyote on the docks a few days ago when I took a walk. Nobody else was around and he was just enjoying looking into the lake.

I dunno I encountered coyotes in the Rouge very often... Occasionally on our street between Col Danforth Park and The Rouge ... They would just stare ... Our Heelers never chased the coyotes.. but were not fearful either.. just went along on their own biz.. which is a bit interesting to me as my Heelers did not socialize well with most other domesticated dogs...

EDIT.. I would go for long walks in the wee hours so I could have them off leash .. 1-3AM ish
