I don’t blame so much old timers who got enchanted with marxism back when it was relatively new, before all its great failures and brutalities became known. It’s harder to explain why millions upon millions of Americans - especially younger ones - at this time talk with straight faces about “giving socialism a chance”. That’s the price for having handed education over to leftist hacks.

I've known a lot of Russians but not one really cared about politics, more interested in Vodka even the highly educated ones, however they all automatically vote for the most left leaning candidates.

My grandfather was an old-time labor Democrat. When I went to the polling place for my first vote at 18 and registered the old guys asked what party affiliation I was registering under. I said "Republican", being a proper Reagan-era Gen Xer. One of the old guys sadly said that my grandfather would be very disappointed to hear that. The other guy chuckled and told me not to listen to him. But you know what? It was all good-natured ribbing. Better, less venomous, times.
