What you’re saying was my first reaction to NAFTA and to other steps the US and the West undertook to involve 3rd world countries in industrialization. Sporting goods companies were notorious - I think it was Nike that kept building factories in poor countries - and moved their business elsewhere as soon as labor costs would come up from the dirt low level.

Companies like that changed the world. People in very poor countries - thanks to those companies - discovered that if they wake up early, shower, shave - and go to work - their financial situation would improve.

Once people develop work skills and habits - and acquire some knowledge - there is no stopping them. More knowledge and more technological sophistication becomes a matter of time.

I don’t understand the notion of hating any people or any nation for wanting to learn and to improve their financial situation - or for having a political system different from ours. And this includes China.

Over the past few decades they increased their GDP per capita by several thousand percentage points - and brought hundreds of millions of human beings out of subsistence level poverty - into relative prosperity.

Freedom? Right now, they’re having demonstrations against the government over CoViD restrictions. As I posted last night to Jacob - let’s wait and see what will happen - will the Gov come out guns blazing - or, will they chose to accommodate the people - and change their CoViD policies.

Everything changes. Today's brand of Chinese communism is very, very different from Mao’s and Stalin’s.

If we make it our job to preemptively fight the commie Chinese and the uppity Russians…. Well… that may just ruin our own reputation.
