I think if Trump runs, DeSantis will sit it out. Even if he - or someone - wins the primaries, the EverTrump followers (R*) will never forgive that person. And, without significant MAGA participation, that person wouldn’t stand a chance in the general election.

Under the circumstances, I think the best bet is to support Trump - and hope for the best.

Most people have already decided who they support, without knowing anything about them. Most people spend little time following politics.

40% of Americans vote and support Democrats under all circumstances.
40% do the same for Republicans.

Only 20% of us ever actually change our mind about anything. The other 80% have fixed permanent Beliefs.
