Intel iComp are processor benchmarks, so scales quite readily with Mhz increases and processor generations. Also, Intel creates new benchmarks when the old ones don't produce the desired effect. (they added some MMX-specific instructions in the latest iteration)

Real life is different. For the most bang for the buck, I usually try to get the latest mass market components, except for the processor, in which I get the cheapest (slowest) of the latest generation. This way, I can always swap in a new processor. In my experience, I rarely find the processor as the bottleneck.

wrt to QNTM, you analysis may be correct, but on a relative basis, QNTM is still a better value than either WDC or SEG. What are you gonna buy with all your moola?
