Years ago I signed up for absentee voting which included your signature. They do have to verify the signature on the ballot against the application signature. I don't believe CA requires ID at the polls so this is actually more secure imo. Now that we send out ballots willy nilly I suppose they compare signatures to those on the registration... I moved a bit over a year ago and only re-registered so that extra level of security is gone.

the incredibly slow ballot counts here look really bad even if there isn't any hanky panky.
