Tom D.
re your note, including:
<<Joe--we may disagree, buy I am not an evil person. I have been a
republican most of my life (although I was a socialist in college). I am not rich because I have worked fewer hours than most docs in order to do lots of volunteer work in homeless shelters in my evenings. I see lots of people who are more loving and unselfish than me in many occupations and in both political parties. I just know that I have a lot less time than I did 5 years ago. >>

My four or five word comment that you took to be about you was not to suggest that you are evil. In my opinion being busy is not evil, being a doctor is not evil, being rich is not evil and being a Democrat is not evil. The combination of any or all of those things is not evil. Those are all of the things that you could possibly infer were directed at you. I never once thought or said you were evil. If you took that meaning I apologize, as I did not mean to insult you in any way.

Your description of yourself sounds like you are far from evil.

And I am not sure we disagree about Amazon much. We both like Amazon and we both shop for books at night. I do usually comparison shop Amazon and Barnes and Noble, which I guess you don't, but that is mainly to inform myself about their relative merits as investments. Certainly saving a dollar on a $20 book is not worth much time.

Possibly we do disagree about Amazon as an investment. I think it is overpriced by about 60% of so.

I think you are saying that it is not wise to have too big an exposure to Amazon stock in either direction because of the risks inherent in its volatile stock price. I am with you there, big time.

My post was trying to say that price is important to most people in shopping. This is especially true when comparison shopping is easy. I think this is why the supermarket has so many brands of canned green beans. Cause people want to be able to comparison shop. So comparison shopping for books on the web will get easier and keep everybody's margins low.
