Syncronys Signs Strategic MarketingAgreements With Leading Hard Drive and Modem Manufacturers

CULVER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 1998--Syncronys Softcorp SYCR , today announced that it has entered into strategic marketing agreements with leading hard drive manufacturer, Western Digital Corporation WDC and leading modem manufacturer, Askey Communication USA Inc.

Syncronys has entered into a marketing agreement with Western Digital who will provide cash rebates on retail hard drives as part of a major direct marketing campaign by Syncronys to launch its BigDisk product. "Western Digital is a household name in hard drives -- we are extremely excited about their participation in this campaign. Their hard drives and our product BigDisk, which manages multiple hard drives, are a winning combination for consumers, and will definitely build Syncronys mind share" said Joe Cheng, Syncronys Vice President of OEM & Asian Sales and Marketing.

Irvine, California-based Western Digital is a leader in information storage products and services with annual revenues of $4 billion.

Syncronys also entered into an OEM distribution agreement with Askey Communication USA Inc. in which Askey and its parent, Askey Computer Corporation, will bundle Syncronys software products with its modems to be shipped worldwide.

Askey, the second largest modem manufacturer in the world with annual sales of $230 million, has committed to place OEM versions of four Syncronys software products with at least 500,000 modems, commencing later this quarter, providing upwards of two million Syncronys products shipped to PC consumers. Askey and Syncronys are considering expanding this agreement.

Syncronys products selected under this agreement include BigDisk, Zipper and EyeCatcher. Askey will produce the CD-ROM disks containing these Syncronys products, at no cost to Syncronys, to be enclosed with its modems. Consumers can then purchase upgrades to the full versions of Syncronys products via a toll free telephone number or on-line via Syncronys' secured website.

Commenting on the agreement, Jeff Kao, Askey product manager, said, "Syncronys produces innovative software utilities that provide our customers with enhanced value, making Askey's bundled products that much more competitive in the market. We see this alliance with Syncronys as producing strong benefit for our customers, as well as for Askey and Syncronys."
