> downgrade today?

Yes! PainWebber downgraded the stock from buy to neutral (and please keep in mind these guys had a buy rating when SUNW was at $48). Reason for the downgrade, IBM and HP are cutting the prices of their workstations.

In fact this downgrade is a great news! For a while I was getting worried that all these con-artists (i.e. analysys) were upgrading SUNW to either buy or strong buy, which meant they were planning to sell their shares during the final 5-10% of the rise after their so called upgrades (and pretty much sure they did unload most of their shares in the $49-$50 range). But now it appears they are thinkg there is lot more upside potentials and not only are planning to keep their remaining shares but definitely buy what they sold and more on weakness! Just a few days earlier Morgan Stanley down graded the stock. Now if we could also have Prudential to downgrade the stock to neutral then I for one will definitely be a buyer of the stock and would not mind to raise my average share base price.

And do not worry, 2 months from now the same con-artists will be back at the stock (when possibly SUNW is trading in the high $49-low $50's) upgrading it back to a buy/strong buy again, and will be downloading their shares during the next 5-10% rise and the cycle continues! For now lets just keep track of who has downgraded and who is left to do. So in summary:

1. The con artists at Morgan Stanley downgraded SUNW on or about 2/9/98 to outperform from buy (whatever outperform means which most likely is something like: Do not go near this stock!).

2. The con artists at PainWebber downgraded SUNW on 2/12/98 to neutral (meaning either sell now or do not touch the stock and go near it with a 100 ft pole).

We are waiting for Prudential. Come on Prudential, Please, go ahead and do your thing.
