I question the accuracy of all of it. <G> They are built from surveys, they are not complete. Then they are always changing the weights of each item. To get an overall number that they want.

Mostly they want the number lower as social security and gov. pensions ect. Pay raises use the CPI number.

They have changed how CPI is calculated 13 times.

That's somewhat true but Canada has a different mix than the US. You're more materials oriented with energy and mining. We're more tech and services. Also the mortgage/housing is different in how mortgages are financed and how the population is clustered.
It generally works but you have to correct for the subtle differences.
