64 million vacant apartments = 130 million person vacancy [assuming about 2 per apartment].
Population = 1,300,000,000 = 10% vacancy rate.

That's similar to Aotearoastan-Zimbabwe's vacancy rate I guess. If we count empty houses such as holiday homes, spare houses and whatnot, I guess NZ is easily 10% vacancy.

That doesn't seem a big problem. People quite like elbow room, so I guess that when people can afford one, they'll buy one and move out of Mum and Dad's apartment. Heck, I'll buy one if they're cheap enough. I could do with a Made in China holiday habitat.
