The researchers have shown that they [the researchers] probably have low vitamin D in their own brains. However, the levels of vitamin D in the brain didn’t associate with any of the physiological markers associated with Alzheimer’s disease in the brain studied, including amyloid plaque buildup, Lewy body disease, or evidence of chronic or microscopic strokes. This means it’s still unclear exactly how vitamin D might affect brain function. What the researchers got wrong is that it's more likely that excellent brain function affects vitamin D level in the brain. Alzheimer people don't have the wits to keep their vitamin D levels up, so of course they have low vitamin D levels in their brains. Clever old people have for decades been aware that vitamin D is an essential nutrient and they will have ensured that they are getting enough vitamin D and they therefore have enough in their brains. Brains that work well cause vitamin D to be in the brains that don't have Alzheimers. Brains that do have Alzheimers don't figure out that they'd better keep their vitamin D levels up. Their care-givers won't be doing a good job either. The researchers clearly have limited brain function and are probably not smart enough to know to take vitamin D supplements. I hasten to add that vitamin D might cause reduced Alzheimers. But their research does not show that. Mqurice
