I have an untested theory that gross margins can be estimated as the difference between PPI and CPI. If PPI is rising and CPI is falling (or even not rising as fast), then the margins are getting squeezed and negative EPS surprises are ahead.

Obviously this needs to be assessed on subcategory basis. Autos seem to be in the worst spot of that curve now.

Used car lots have to be eating massive losses on their floor plans the 2nd half of 2022. I see those lots full and just think they may be looking at bankruptcy.
