That was a very strange thing for Schumer to say. It’s his job to make sure that intelligence and law enforcement remain under legitimate congressional supervision - and answer to the executive branch. So, he was admitting to neglecting his responsibilities. And he didn’t come off sounding smart about it, either.

During the period after Trump won the elections - but before he took office - there was a puzzling item that showed up in the media — apparently, someone from the US intelligence told the Israelis not to share any important intelligence with the incoming administration. I think, it was out of concern that the new people may not keep things secret. Or something like that. Remember thinking - if they don’t report to the president - then, WHO do they report to?

It seems, there is a whole different world there, in DC. And its connection with the world of regular citizens may be somewhat tenuous.

He must go into that Valley Boy mode for effect.
