Tantalex’s 70%-owned subsidiary United Cominiere, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has started exploration drilling on the Pegmatite Corridor, which is immediately downstrike from the world’s largest undeveloped hard-rock lithium resource, the company reports.

Tantalex on December 12 said it believed the project held blue sky lithium discovery potential.

Drilling has started with the first three holes completed by reverse circulation (RC) drilling. Drilling will test targets immediately downstrike from the Dathcom Mining spodumene lithium resource.

A total of 20 000 m of diamond and RC drilling is planned over the next nine months, with drill targets identified from aeromagnetic and radiometric surveys.

Tantalex’s TiTan plant construction remains on schedule to start operations in March next year. The access road upgrade between Manono and the TiTan plant location has been completed and the teams are now busy preparing the foundation work.

The TiTan plant is projected to produce about 1 400 t/y of tin concentrate and 220 t/y of tantalum concentrate.

Tantalex has appointed Montreal’s Novopro Projects, in Canada, to conduct the preliminary economic assessment for the Phase 1 of the Manono lithium tailings project. The objective is to focus on bringing dumps K, G and I in the southwest of the concession into production as early as possible.

Further to the positive results received from the testing company HLS, Tantalex has proceeded with additional metallurgical test work for material from dumps K and G to determine the optimal process flow sheet for the production of 6% lithium oxide spodumene concentrate.
