David: Yes I absolutely do! The DCAM chip has the potential to be another Sony PlayStation type chip for LSI. But you have to remember that even though the ramp looks big, in terms of volume digital cameras are still peanuts. Yes and price points coming down (along with a "valid" use and lack of competing standards) are why I think digital cameras will do quite well.

However as I've mentioned - there is typically a 2 year time period before things get really interesting. Figure we will see material contributions in 1998, getting bigger in 1999 and after that should be huge in 2000 and beyond.

However we need to keep this in perspective. Corrigan said combined DVD and DCAM will be high single digits of LSI's revenue or somewhere around 100 to 140 million either this year or next.

(I just checked my c. call notes - looks like they are counting on the 100 million or so for both chips this year. Which means that LSI should get 7-9% growth this year from these chips. So why isn't the overall growth rate for 1998 not expected to be considerably higher than say 10%? Inquiring minds need to know!!! )

David,

LSI still hasn't filled that gap (24 3/4 to 25 1/4 now), but I never thought it would in the first place. Of course, we can still fill it today, or we can rally without filling it. We could come back to it in the future, or we might never! <g>

Hey, don't forget that MU gets the decision on that anti-dumping thingie, tomorrow.

E!
