<..but what is SOES stand for?..>

small order execution system. NASDAQ stocks have a SOES "tier" size which represents the minimum bid/offer that a MM can post - usually 1K (hence the ubiquitous 10x10 "size" on NASDAQ stocks)

SOES traders try to play off of momentum investors by hitting the bid or offer with quick orders BEFORE the MM can adjust his "size" up or down. Whenever you see MMs like INCA or ISLD active (or see many quick 1K trades if you don't have level 2), you likely have SOES activity. And SOES almost always go home flat - ie. zero sum - AFTER they've shaken others out or in.
