Great movie. Have watched it at least twice, after seeing it in the movie theater many moons ago.
Had some solid roles for some Native Americans, as well, although Wes Studi's role as the villainous
Magua, was criticized at the time, it got him dozens of good jobs in the decades following..

now, as far as 'depressing' films.. am thinking this one is going to be: Oppenheimer
with Cillian Murphy in the lead role, we'll certainly see it at some point.

I used to recommend it to my students- who had to read the book. Their complaint (justifiable, imo) was that all our literature was depressing. We had very few books that had anything close to a happy ending of any kind whatsoever. Lots of murder. Lots of mayhem. Sad pointless deaths.
