We have had our brushes with random, or not so random, violence but nothing on the level of what I teach. My father being shot in a mass shooting (and living! Yay!) was the most traumatic thing we experienced as a family. And I look back on that and feel very lucky my father survived. If my life had been a book like the ones I taught dad would have died- and probably all the rest of us :-)
