Missed this post. AMD is in a world of hurt with K6 yield problems. I spoke with Tony Becham, AMD IR a few days ago and she was not a happy camper. Tony said that they are losing hundreds of millions on the K6 and will forego the planned Dresden, Germany fab for at least a year. She said it has gotten so serious that management has considered getting out of the uP business altogether. I doubt that will happen and may have been meant to send a shock through the company "we better get this to work or we will all be out of jobs soon". It could end up in major layoffs and restructuring if things don't improve.

Cyrix/NSM is also reported to be having serious production and profit problems. Cyrix was losing money on the M2 before Intel and AMD dropped prices dramatically. Cyrix was already lower in price and hasn't had to come down as much but now the squeeze on profits must be severe.

While a few moths ago it looked as if Centaur/IDT was very late to the game with the C6, the competitors problems has at least given them some more breathing room and has also created a possible coup de' ta.
