Just a note from note from a large investor --- not stock, but actually bought 1/4 million dollars worth of equipment from Sandia (and are trying to get rid of what we have left)
We got in trouble by believing, in Nov. 1996 Sandia's statements that their printers could work with smart cards. They absolutely did not, and nobody was working on it. Attempts to find out when that functionality would be available were answered in the most circuitous manner. Even now, the smart card arena (an area people in this thread are rightfully enthused about) will be serviced in only the most basic ways --- as you would expect from a printer provider, not a solutions provider. Compare this to the offerings from main competitors (both printers and service bureau) like Datacard.
Other areas like laser and Glyph are ones in which few if any results with marketplace impact have appeared. (I believe the only Glyph-related mention lately has in regard to their payments to Xerox --- am I right ?)
Anyway, I've invested enough without even buying stock. --- 0.22 a share maybe, but $5.00 for those who get in later --- good (better) luck
