Evan you are correct. Volume drying up means that either there is not much supply or there is not much demand at this price. Money is neither flowing in or out of the claims on equity that the stock represents.

I think there is little stock offered because the large holders know that MCA approval could cause a 30% jump in price in a day.

I think there is little demand for the stock because of the prior demonstrated risk, and the fact that MCA approval is uncertain and will have a huge effect on this quarter's earnings.

This is not a good short position to enter, given the fundamentals of the business. And there is not particular pressure to cover, (also I believe short interest as of Feb 15th will be lower than Jan 15th).

IMHO, it is the calm before the storm. And I own the stock because I think the price movement will be upward when the storm comes.

Evan, I agree with Zebra's post #5447 in regards to today's activity.
We are balanced on a beam between the ED market pill/MUSE controversy and Asia/Clinton affair rumblings. People are parked in bomb shelters and peaking out the hole from time to time trying to figure out what's next. I am happy so far though that when the chips ( gg, Intel, PFE etc ) are down, Vivus and ( my other holding , Newbridge Networks Jan 99 calls up 20% in one week ), are up.If you can't stomach the beam balancing, gg, for any length of time, gg, then you should either sell, or focus to 6 months from now, gg. I hope this helps.
