Joey - Re: ..Intel's strategy in consumer electronics?"

For the hand-held market, Intel is not committing major resources. They were burned badly about 5 years ago and haven't forgotten.

As for "consumer" stuff - Intel is integrating their processor chip sets and graphics in order to go after the sub $1000 PC with Pentium II and an integrated chip set. Using their 0.25 micron technology, they will improve performance while cutting prices, and maintaining margins.

Despite Hitachi having the inside track with TCI, Intel and Hitachi have been working on a TV/PC decoder system that will permit integration of the PC and a television using either a PC format OR a TV format (display). I suspect that this product, combined with Intel's more integrated CPU/Chips sets will lead to a "consumer" product.

Beyond that, I think Intel will continue to leverage their wafer fab technology to bring faster cheaper (and still more profitable) products to market.

I am expecting some surprises regarding a new fab process to be revealed in the next few months.
