<<I seem to recall bears saying that the net effect was that KE just pissed off the street with his attitude. Any long timers remember any of this? >>

No, at first.

Now that I think about it, this took place real early. KE was the joke of the meeting. I remember something to the fact that many analysts snickered in the back and thought this whole removable storage thingie was a down right joke. So much so, after the presentation was done many analysts picked up the phone and advised their firm to short the company as much as possible, If what I'm saying is right, can't remember the exact events, the short squeez took place consequently.

If anyone can add to the above and correct my memory is welcome.

Reseller -- please post more about your impressions of the sparq.

Ok Jack, here it is but first a couple of comments. I am long IOM
and have been for almost two years, I therefore realize my bias in
this regard. Statements that I make are guarded against this bias in
hopes of a neutral observation of machinery. I installed this in one of
my custom built machines but didn't provide it, the customer bought
it at Fry's ( against my advise ) and then couldn't get it running, thus
my involvement in the installation.

There was an issue with the drive and mother board that would not let the drive work with the secondary IDE interface.
Thus the reason that the customer couldn't get it running. It would
not register in the 1st or 2nd position of the 2nd IDE interface.
We had to take the CD drive off of the 1st IDE interface 2nd position and move it to the 2nd IDE interface in order to free up the 1st IDE interface for the SparQ. This can be a problem if your CD requires the 1st IDE interface ( some do ). Zip drives don't have this problem.

The disk had lot of play in it while inserting , seating of the cartridge was an iffy deal sometimes it would seat properly and sometimes it wouldn't. When it didn't seat properly then it wouldn't eject and I had to play around with it to get it out. A noticed effort had to be made that you apply downward pressure while inserting the disk.

The disks were a little scary to me in that the door was a band that was attached to a cylinder that as it opened would raise the platter higher inside the cartridge.
I could see more moving parts that have an opportunity to fail.

The pull down front door just gets in the way, to insert the disk you have to deal with it. I can foresee this breaking and unnecessary

I think the big problems with this product are seating of the disks and the platters themselves. A local competitor also expressed the same concerns.
He had installed 5 drives and returned 1 as failed. Our margins aren't that great, the one that he returned probably ate up the profit of the other 4 when you consider the troubleshooting labor.

Anyway as you say all with a grain of sodium and from a long
time IOMer.

Regards
Reseller
