Washington approached the Saudi oil minister, notorious Sheikh Yamani, with the proverbial offer-you-can’t-refuse: we buy your oil in US dollars and in return you buy our Treasury bonds, lots of weapons, and recycle whatever’s left in our banks. Sheikh Yamani was not notorious. He was famous. He famously said "The stone age didn't end for lack of stones and the oil age won't end for lack of oil". [Or words pretty much that]. I thought Sheikh Yamani was a good bloke. A pleasant chap. A capable man. A reasonable person. In 1974 OPEC got going in a big way and the market was moving fast with gold and US$ being separated turning US$ into a bullshit system. Which it had been anyway as the gold standard was not a fixed system, with the $35 an ounce figure having been set just a few decades. Oil went from about $2 a barrel in 1970 to $12 a barrel in 1974, then $40 a barrel by 1979. They whiny millennials and others who didn't like oil going from $10 a barrel in Y2K to $120 a barrel a decade later got off light. I remember the 1970s woes by "experts" = "Arrrgghhhh how will all those US$ be recycled from the stupendously wealthy oil exporters? Economic woe is us!!" I thought it would be no problem at all. The Arabs would go shopping. Sure enough, they did. Buying all sorts of absurdity including cities in the desert and now The Line. Actually, if they had political systems that made sense, it could all work okay. But they don't and they can't. Now that men [not women or transgenders] can do anything, using physics, maths, chemistry and engineering, a desert is quite a good place. It can be covered in photovoltaics which enable water to be produced from sea water. With electricity at low cost, pretty much everything is doable. Of course they can't be done if women run politics and commie kleptocratic suffocatocracy - which seems to be what women [not all of course] like, along with misandrist hypergamy. Young men have abandoned the temporal world and are now hiding in Cyberspace. Women are ruling the 3D world and think they have broken all the glass ceilings and taken over. They haven't. Cyberspace is taking over. Politics is so last-century, Ukraine notwithstanding. Women are loving the war. Sanna, Liz Truss, Ursula, Jacinda, Annalena, Yulia, Hillary, Valerie, Samantha, ["We came, we saw, he died! Cackle cackle cackle..."] with girly-men like Herr Gruppenfuhrer Stoltenberg doing as he's told. No women have suggested voting in the East of Ukraine to resolve the conflict - I did, eventually Elon did, Russia did. Voting is normally considered a good idea = Brexit, Scotland independence, Quebec, Yugoslavia, New Zealand, Ireland = why not in Ukraine? Women would rather have nuclear war. Women are evil incarnate. I doubt that Moslems can lead the world as they must obey 7th century red in tooth and claw totalitarian islamofascist ideology. So I guess that as oil becomes obsolete, they'll revert to riding camels in desolate deserts using the newly useless cities as camel stables. Except that buildings will act like groynes at a beach, with sand piling up around them until the dunes reach the top. Unlike in Canada, where the snow eventually melts, sand won't leave of its own accord. I recall in Quebec city after a big storm, watching swarms of trucks dumping loads of snow in the river - snowploughs don't remove enough of the stuff. Maybe the hordes of immigrants will take over those oil-rich countries like the swarms of immigrants have taken over Londonistan. Islamic ideology might be ditched, replaced with Tradable Citizenship, and those weird oil-cities turned into new centres of humanity. Especially if my 2007 theory about reglaciation turns out to be right. The CO2 Greenhouse Effect doomsters have had 40 years to be proven right. So far they have had zero success, other than transferring gigatons of $$$ from taxpayers and everyone else to their ideology. There's no sign of runaway warming. New York is still not underwater. Children in Buffalo still know what snow is. Swarms of people died of hypothermia, not being too hot. The old-time religions must be green with envy at the financial success of the new Global Warming/Envirofascist religion. Mqurice
